Comic Con Bucharest - It Was Good To Be Home

1/6/2016

This weekend was a good one. The kind of weekend when Black gets to meet people and, as usual, they are some of the smartest gamers out there. We exhibited within the RGDA booth, which was packed with Romanian games developed by Kappsule, Scorpius Games, Alien Pixel, Very Simple Ideas, T-Me Games and Amber with its magic Carbon.

It was such a nice feeling to introduce Black The Fall to the younger Romanian audience, as the average age must have been below 20. For instance we have David, an 8 years old who just blew our mind when he finished the demo in 20 minutes. Then there were two girls (friends) who started to play the game at the same time and, the entire one hour and a half they spent on figuring out he game, they helped each other and patiently tried out all possibilities to make sense of the puzzles.

It was definitely overwhelming to see how well Black The Fall was received by the younger audience especially when they'd tell us things like "This is not my type of game, but I loved it" or when we saw them coming over and over again bringing friends to try it out.

We simply loved to see them caught in the process of solving puzzles and proud of themselves for finding solutions. Paradoxically, this is how a dark game brings joy, I guess :)

It was all fun and games, but there are some serious matters as well: the contest. Random.org has decided who the winners are and they have already been notified. So congrats: Mircea, Mihai, Andrei, Razvan and Catia for your Black The Fall keys and congrats Alexandru for winning the statue :)

So, hope to see the rest of you this week at Unite Europe or in two weeks at E3. Full steam ahead for a #revolution!

Black The Fall is Now Fully Playable

6/5/2016

We are very excited to let you know that Black The Fall is fully playable. All puzzles are in place and working, all scenes are set-up, the ending is there – all of it. Black The Fall is alive and kicking! 🎇

We are now pushing for the full Alpha version, due in a month (without deadlines one would still be improving the first playrooms). This means there’s still some work to be done starting with a lot of in-house testing, as we need to scrub it of all obvious bugs, before we call our friends over for an outsider opinion. Nico is our testing queen and she needs a spa week, a city-break or just a break from playing, bug spotting and trying not to fix things on the spot (which would be so unproductive).

By the way, if you happen to be in Bucharest in the following weeks and want to play any parts of it, just drop us a note. We'd love to have you testing it!

Fun fact: Licu actually advised Nico to be bad at it, this way nobody would want her to test. But I guess she can’t go against her nature of being such a merciless observant of what can be improved.

The game looks great and we're now adding the final communist touches. We're aiming for excellence here - Party's  orders. So we're currently working on:
  • Dressing – suitable scenery to render the atmosphere (on our artists’ to-do list Nico, Marius, Andrei and Andreea).
Picture
  • Animations - how Black, the Guard, the Worker and our jazzy Sentinel move around (it's on Cristi for design & Licu for functionality)
Picture
  • Navigation – how the characters navigate individually and together (Razvan is the lucky responsible for this one)
Picture
  • Designator – how our laser pointer, used to designate, works (pinkie swear from Razvan on this one)

We are closer to our goal, as we planned to launch Black The Fall on PC this autumn. And we’re going for it, full steam ahead!

30.11.2015 - Who's Black? What's his journey?

ALL ABLE MEN WILL RESPOND TO THE PARTY'S CALL FOR INDUSTRIALIZATION
It all began with the first build, which took you on a journey through The Factory where Black, like many of his peers, lived his dull and sad life.

He was taken from his rural home and separated from his family. Thrown into giant factories, he was robbed of his freedom and turned into a mindless and obedient tool. Although imprisoned, Black still longed to be free, still longed for his home and loved ones.
A door malfunctioned, an opportunity emerged.
The path to freedom is dark and uncertain but it's the only way...

The second build will take you Into The Dark, an old and abandoned part of The Factory. Here it's all about light and shadows, about finding your bearings in a world without choices, without friends.
Hope still remains.
Don't let the dankness scare you.
These steel giants can be fooled.
Just take it step by step.
